Hello and welcome to the first ever Silly Goose Writing Club Newsletter! My name is Maisy Phelps, Thin Air Magazine’s current Editor-in-Chief, and I am so honored to announce that we have officially started work on Thin Air 31. From here on out, however, Thin Air 31 will be known as Thin Air: Metamorphosis. We chose this theme because it aligns with what we are attempting behind the curtain at Thin Air: growing, changing, developing. We even have a person in charge of fundraising now, can you believe it? Genuinely, we are so excited for all the work we have in store for us to make sure that Thin Air reaches a wider audience, sustains itself, and keeps itself honest (and just a little bit silly). If that’s not metamorphosis, I don’t know what is. As a subscriber to this newsletter, you are entitled to one free submission to Thin Air Magazine (although please note that you must be at least 7 years removed from Northern Arizona to be considered for the print magazine). Here is the theme statement we’ve crafted, to get your creative river flowing our direction:
When you make anything, you change something. For issue 31,
we’re interested in art that ponders the metamorphosis we see in
creation, in destruction, in reflection, in meditation, in stagnation, in
art itself. As Thin Air transforms, we invite you to submit your pieces
that engage with our theme: Metamorphosis!
If you have already submitted a piece, don’t worry! All art changes
the world from the act of its creation alone.
Redeem your free submission now!
In more exciting news, our fundraiser over the summer has raised Over 200
dollars for The Palestine Children’s Relief Fund. Thank you all so much for
helping us make a meaningful difference.
We also wanted to let you all know NAU alumni Zane Frederick’s upcoming poetry
collection Tough & Tender will be available this October.
I will not overstay my welcome (this time at least). Keep your eyes on your inbox
for our triweekly (once every three weeks, to be clear) newsletter. We will be providing updates, interesting articles on craft and the publishing industry, prompts, featured pieces and authors, and more!
Your prompt for this week: write what scares you. Writing this newsletter sure
scared me!
Thank you for supporting our little magazine. We have big plans, and knowing we have people standing at our back and rooting for us means everything.
Sincerely,
Maisy Phelps
Editor-in-Chief
