Two Poems by Chris Abbott

HPS

Who would have noticed
the black birds taking on
childlike possibility?

They leapt and bounced
across and above
the ground

their back flip
over
and yonder

the assault on the scaling net
reimagined
beyond…

measured against
gargantuan noises
from deforestation

cutting,
stripping,
shredding…

all for the visibility
of a
perimeter fence.

My life in two four drawer filing cabinets
